Voice performance major Martina Fedorowicz ’24 is an extremely talented singer.
Martina Fedorowicz ’24 is a native of Bethlehem. “I have always loved living in the Lehigh Valley, and I value the culture of this area very much.”
You are a music performance major. Tell us about when you became interested and your journey to Moravian’s music department.
I sang in church when I was young, and I began playing the trumpet when I was 12. I became interested in earning my bachelor’s degree from Moravian after participating in Dr. Wetzel’s All Star Jazz Band in high school. I also grew up in a musical family, so I have been surrounded by it my whole life. I studied music education initially and then switched my major to voice performance after beginning to study with Professor Suzanne Kompass.
What activities are you involved in?
Concert Choir, Chorale, Vocalis, Opera Ensemble, Mostly Monteverdi Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Big Band, and Marching Band.
What’s next after you graduate?
I will be earning my master of music from the University of South Carolina beginning in the fall of 2024.
Tell us about one of the best experiences you’ve had at Moravian University.
One of the best experiences I have had at Moravian has been performing in the Opera Ensemble, it allowed me to grow so much as a performer by getting me outside my comfort zone.
What have you discovered about yourself since you’ve been at Moravian?
I have discovered that I have a true passion for performing despite my initial doubts.
Share something about yourself that may surprise people.
I love the outdoors. I enjoy hiking, kayaking, riding horses, and pretty much anything that can be done outside.
What is your favorite place on campus?
Peter Hall because it is my favorite place to sing on campus.
What is your favorite college tradition?
Performing in the choir at Vespers. It is such a nice way to feel festive toward the end of the semester. It also really allows me to feel present during such a hectic time.
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not studying?
Either riding/working with horses or hiking.
What book, film, song, or piece of art do you find unforgettable?
Claude Monet’s Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies(1899).
Who inspires you?
Professor Suzanne Kompass. Throughout my time studying with her, she has been nothing but supportive. I aspire to be like her, not only as a performer and voice teacher, but also as a person. Her knowledge, ability, wisdom, kindness, and expectation of excellence are all things I wish to embody when I have my own studio one day.
