Alexis Gasparetti never thought she’d be working at one of her top-rated companies so early in her career. She credits her network at Moravian during both her undergraduate and graduate studies for the knowledge and skills she gained and for her success in getting her dream job at Tesla.
As a data analyst for the Tesla Fremont Factory in Fremont, California, Gasparetti is part of a team that optimizes the supply chain. She’s in charge of requesting data from databases and aggregating it through automated codes to upper management in the form of a visual. Her focus is on automotive and vehicle service, using data to ensure car parts from suppliers get delivered to their customers at service and collision centers in a timely manner.
With a recent promotion to senior data analyst, Gasparetti still handles data pulls needed for management, but she’s focused more on managing projects and coding or working with raw data sources to validate and aggregate data and transform it into one clean source.
“It’s rewarding seeing the final product of what seems to be a simple data visualization and knowing the work that went into compiling the visual end to end, outputting it into a visual that makes sense and helps managers make decisions,” she says.
Gasparetti says Moravian gave her the upper hand in her career. The courses within her economics major prepared her to work with management, understand how fast-paced companies operate, and use data-visual dashboards. Pair that with her master’s degree in data analytics and Gasparetti says she was able to achieve personal growth because faculty made sure she could use what she learned in the classroom in the workforce.
To study under professors who have a passion for what they do was the best part, Gasparetti says. She also valued the close-knit, community-oriented campus environment at Moravian.
“I didn’t want to be a number, I wanted my professors to know me, and it worked out that way. My professors did know me. They actually cared,” she says.
Gasparetti worked as a graduate assistant at Moravian, studied abroad in Spain, finished her undergraduate degree in three years, and her master’s degree in data analytics in two years. She calls herself “impatient” as a person, but others may call her “determined.”
Although she works remotely from the Lehigh Valley, Gasparetti’s job requires her to be on West Coast time, which is even more apparent when she’s on site in California. While earning her master’s degree at Moravian, she was able to work across the country and take her scheduled classes.
“The professors were very forgiving if my job ever became an issue,” Gasparetti says. “They work with you, stay up late with you, schedule your test early or late. Their flexibility is the only reason I was able to finish the program.”
She says she felt the faculty in her graduate program personalized her experience and truly cared about her and her success.
“It was so personal and community oriented,” Gasparetti says. “Moravian really proved itself.”—Davin Fields
