Lavender the Belgian Malinois is owned by Catherine Condly ’18 and her boyfriend, Ryan.

Also known as “Lavy,” Lavender the Belgian Malinois was adopted from Work Dog Rescue and Rehabilitation in Lockhart, Texas, by Catherine Condly ’18 and her boyfriend, Ryan. Lavy’s mother came from a backyard breeder, and Lavy was actually born in the back of the dog rescue’s truck on the day her mother was picked up. Condly adopted Lavy when she was just six months old. The energetic dog now shares the household with her canine sister, Luna.

What is something Lavy has taught you?
She’s taught us many things. To name a few, how smart dogs are and how unconditionally they love you. Lavy only needs one or two days to learn a new trick. As a reward, she loves treats, but cuddling with her person is even better. Her love is truly unconditional.

What is the funniest thing Lavy has ever done?
She thinks she’s a lap dog, even though she weighs 85 pounds. She just plops in your lap like it’s nothing. She’ll lie on her side and throw her head back to show her little buck teeth.

What would be Lavy’s favorite spot on campus?
John Makuvek Field, where she would run wild with her sister, Luna.

What one word best describes Lavy?
Sweet or loving.

In what special way have you pampered her?
Sometimes we give her extra kibble or top it with a treat. She loves mealtime.

What is Lavy’s favorite toy, food, or activity?
She loves spending time with Luna and doing anything outside with her people. She’s very attached.

If Lavy had a theme song, what would it be?
“Lavender Girl,” by Caamp, or “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles),” by the Proclaimers.

What major would Lavy choose?
Something in the medical field.
