Logan Palau '25 during her internship at iHeartMedia
From a small river town in New Hope, Pennsylvania, to New York City, Moravian University was the bridge that connected Logan Palau ’25 to her future.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in communications and media studies with a focus on writing for public audiences and a minor in English, Palau headed to New York in June to begin her internship with iHeartMedia as a podcast production intern.
There, she sat in on recordings, watching hosts like comedian and content creator Hope Woodard and political commentator and journalist S.E. Cupp work their craft from behind the scenes. Palau handled the first round of audio edits, removing filler words, trimming tangents, and shaping the final product. She also highlighted clips for YouTube Shorts and social media.
“I’m writing fun social media captions, but it’s serious because it’s what markets their business,” Palau says.
One of Palau’s favorite parts about working at iHeartMedia was the open communication and collaboration with the executive producers and talent involved in podcast production. The ease of sharing ideas reminded her of working in the newsroom on Moravian’s student newspaper, The Comenian—only now on a much larger stage.
At Moravian, Palau was interested in the creative field from the start. She originally wanted to become an English teacher, but once she joined The Comenian, she fell in love with journalism. Palau started as a reporter covering various beats for the newspaper, later took on managing its social media, and ultimately rose to assistant editor.
“I just love the freedom that writing has,” Palau says.
Beyond the newsroom, Palau took part in Moravian’s Phonathon as a student fundraiser, the Humanities and Millennium Fellowships, the American Sign Language club, and worked as a writing consultant in the university’s writing center.
She began networking during her senior year, talking to “anybody and everybody” while noting the importance of being herself and playing to her strengths. She reminds her peers that few land their dream job right out of college, and encourages them to see every role as part of the journey.
“Pay your dues and be okay with that. Just know that everything is a stepping stone, it’s not necessarily your landing,” Palau says.
Palau used to imagine graduating from college and heading to The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Condé Nast, or other well-known hubs for writers. But now, in the podcast field, the fit feels natural.
“I knew I was interested in the creativeness, but I never thought about the production side because I never tried it,” Palau says. “I’m still working in journalism, just in a different medium.”
Her iHeart internship has since become her part-time job where she contributes to multiple podcast shows as needed. She’s currently still on the show Outlaws with TS Madison, in addition to These Packs Puck, Boysober, HealthStuff, and even a few women’s sports podcasts.
Palau says she values iHeart’s commitment to representation, with podcast slates such as The Black Effect and Outspoken, which highlight diverse voices within iHeart’s podcast community. She admires the company’s principles and how it allows creators to share their authentic voices.
Those same values took Palau to Moravian University—the overwhelming sense of community and an outlet to be creative.
“It sounds cliché, but [students should] expose themselves to as much as they can. Don’t be afraid to be a little silly and wonder if people are looking at you,” Palau says. “Take advantage of what Moravian has to offer in terms of community, and don’t let fear stifle you.”—Davin Fields
