The Moravian University Interprofessional Simulation Center recently received a vital equipment upgrade, thanks to a generous donation from B. Braun Medical Inc. The new intravenous infusion pumps replace equipment originally donated in 2017, when the Helen S. Breidegam School of Nursing and Public Health first opened. This latest contribution ensures students are training with the same cutting-edge technology used at St. Luke’s University Health Network hospitals, promoting seamless transitions from academic preparation to clinical practice.

“It’s essential that our students learn with the same technology they’ll encounter in clinical practice,” said Deborah Halliday, Director of the Simulation Center. “When students are familiar with the equipment used in hospitals, they can provide safer and more efficient patient care.”

Recognizing the need to update the simulation center’s infusion equipment, Halliday contacted Laura Collins at B. Braun to request 12 new Infusomat® Space pumps. Thanks to Collins and the B. Braun Grant Requests Board, the request was swiftly approved and fulfilled.

“This donation of twelve intravenous (IV) pumps to the Moravian University College of Health will provide students with hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment in real clinical scenarios,” said Dr. Jay Scifers, Associate Provost and Dean of the College of Health. “This valuable contribution to the interprofessional simulation center allows future healthcare professionals to develop critical skills in medication administration and infusion therapy under realistic conditions. The integration of these IV pumps will enhance collaborative learning across the School of Nursing and Public Health and the School of Rehabilitation Sciences, better preparing graduates to deliver safe and effective patient care from day one of their clinical practice.”

This donation will benefit Moravian students for years to come, helping to ensure high-quality, confident care for patients throughout the Lehigh Valley and beyond.
