Dr. Guzman Foster brings a wealth of experience, academic leadership, and innovation to this new role

BETHLEHEM, PA – May 6, 2025– Today, Moravian University announced the appointment of Dr. Sandra Guzman Foster as the inaugural dean of its newly established Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation and a faculty member in the Education Department. With a distinguished career dedicated to faculty development and student-centered learning, Dr. Foster brings a dynamic and visionary approach to this leadership role.

Dr. Guzman Foster most recently served as Director, Center for Teaching and Learning at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX, where she led initiatives to enhance teaching, mentorship, and faculty engagement. Her leadership advanced innovative instructional practices and promoted inclusive learning environments that prioritized experiential education and student belonging.

In addition to her professional leadership, Dr. Guzman Foster has an exceptional record of academic service at the University of Incarnate Word. She has held key roles on numerous university committees and served as a senator in the Faculty Senate. Her contributions to Hispanic-Serving Institution initiatives, service-learning, and faculty governance reflect her deep commitment to building inclusive and mission-aligned academic communities.

Throughout her career, Dr. Guzman Foster has implemented comprehensive strategies to improve student outcomes, particularly for underrepresented and marginalized populations. Her work emphasizes storytelling and relationship-building as tools for effective teaching and faculty development. She also brings valuable experience in accreditation, curriculum development, and faculty performance evaluation, having previously served as Program Coordinator for General Education programs at the graduate level.

Dr. Guzman Foster holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Arizona State University, a Master of Arts in Developmental and Adult Education from Texas State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Mary’s University.

Dr. Guzman Foster’s appointment marks a significant milestone in Moravian University’s strategic vision to support excellence in teaching, academic innovation, and inclusive learning.
