Moravian’s HUB will be the first WELL pre certified building in the Lehigh Valley
BETHLEHEM, PA – April 24, 2025– Today, Moravian University announced that its state-of-the-art student center, the HUB, slated to open in fall 2025 and designed with a focus on student wellness has earned WELL precertification from the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). IWBI is a globally recognized organization that evaluates buildings based on how they support human health and well-being. This prestigious designation reflects the university’s deep commitment to fostering a holistic campus environment.

The HUB is on schedule to open in the fall of 2025 and full WELL certification is anticipated to be completed near the end of the year. When fully certified the HUB will be the first WELL certified building in the Lehigh Valley and one of only 13 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In addition, only one other higher education facility in Pennsylvania has earned WELL certification, a building at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School in Philadelphia.
Thoughtfully designed to promote student wellness in every form—mental, physical, and academic—the new HUB is set to become the heart of the student experience at Moravian. The WELL precertification is based on an assessment of 11 categories that sync with the goal of the HUB’s design.
“At Moravian, we are dedicated to creating a student experience that supports the whole person,” said Bryon Grigsby, president of Moravian University. “The new HUB is more than just a building—it’s a vibrant, inclusive space that prioritizes connection, health, and academic success, and it is coming to life thanks to support from our alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters.”
The HUB will include collaborative spaces for eating, studying, and socializing and will provide access to wellness resources and student services—all under one roof. Every element has been designed to encourage mindfulness behaviors, enhance learning, and promote mental and physical well-being.
The WELL precertification highlights key features such as access to natural light, enhanced air and water quality, thoughtful material selection, and amenities that encourage movement and mindfulness.
